Pixel Art Generator is a free online tool. Convert an image into pixel-art style at adjustable resolution.
After uploading an image, the tool reduces the image to a specified pixel size (for example, 32x32, 64x64, 128x128), and then scales it back to its original size to create a pixelated mosaic effect. You can adjust the target pixel density, the number of colors (limit the size of the swatch), and whether to enable dithering algorithms to simulate more color levels.
The implementation principle is to control the interpolation method during the scaling process through Canvas's imageSmoothingUthed property. Scaling when smoothing is turned off will produce blocks of pixels with hard edges. Color quantization uses a median segmentation algorithm to compress color to a specified amount. All of this is done locally in the browser and no files will be uploaded.
