About this tool
Sextant is a free online visual effect. An interactive 3D instrument simulating a nautical sextant measuring celestial body altitude. Interactive eye-candy rendered live on your screen. It runs entirely in your browser — no download or sign-up needed.
After opening the page, the operating interface of the sextant will be displayed, including the dial, indicating mirror, telescope and other components. You can drag to adjust the angle of the sextant and measure the altitude angle of simulated objects (sun, moon, stars).
The whole process is pure front-end animation, drawing the precise structure of the sextant based on JPEG, and the interaction is smooth. The measurement results will be displayed on the interface in real time.
Suitable for navigation teaching, astronomy science or retro style decoration. The realization principle is angle measurement and trigonometric function calculation in geometric optics.
The sextant is an interactive visual effect that simulates a navigation tool. It can measure the altitude angle of celestial bodies and be used for astronomical navigation teaching.
